How do I set up an affiliate website with amazon.com?

I want to set up an affiliate website with amazon.com selling coffee grinders, makers, presses, etc. I read amazon’s policies and what their affiliate program is about. However, they did not state their requirements about how a website should be structured. I believe they said that I’ll find this out after I’ve registered. When I tried registering, they required that I already have a website up and running, not just an address or something that’s under construction. I’m in a loop. How will I be able to build my site if I don’t know whether it will comply with amazon’s rules?

I know there are shortcuts, like buying a pre-made templates / website from companies who do this type of stuff, and all you need to do is add products. But I want to do this on my own, i.e. build web pages (which I know how to) and publish the site myself, and not hire these companies. I need help on getting around the amazon.com mystery loop. How should I set up my pages to comply with amazon’s requirements?

Starting a website for affiliate advertisement?

I have a domain name and now am looking to either build a affiliate site or purchase a template. I will have some content, Blogs etc. Giving people reasons to revisit. The templates and website building programs seem very basic and don’t allow much room in the way of advertisement. My question is – has anyone built a site for the sole purpose of generating money from affiliate advertisement and where is the best place to find a template or the correct program to build this type of site? I don’t have any HTML experience. Thanks!

I would prefer a free template of course and I know search engines don’t like frames, but anyway. I am looking to add my original content on top, bottom and sides of my website, but put my affiliate site in the center of my page. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!
