Nancy asks…
Which Pokemon Deck should I get?
For the holidays, my almost 7 year old wants Pokemon cards. But there are so many cards and decks, it is hard to know where to start? I have an idea of how to play and build a deck from the website, but even their latest set (Diamonds and Pearls) seems to have a 3 versions (basic, Mysterious Treasures, Secrets and Wonders.) I can’t figure out if you can start with Mysterious Treasures or if you need to start with the basic Diamond and Pearls set and add on. Or maybe an older set would be better to start?
And then there are these additional cards (like Ex cards) that are available too. I see they are supposed to be more powerful, but your oppenent gets 2 prize cards for knocking one out. Can they coexist in a deck with regular cards, or do you need to have a deck completely with Ex cards?
Thanks

Pokemon tcg has over 20 sets n has been made into quite a number of series (a group of same-themed sets). It has been revised many times. Thats why theres a lot of different types like EX series and Diamond & Pearl (DP), and if ur really lucky u’ll come across some e-cards still for sale as well. Currently the newest edition is the DP series, which like u realised had 3 sets (not version, mind u) and was released in conjunction with the 4th generation of pokemon. So actually the said EX cards u mentioned are actually just powerful cards from an older expansion, no different in gameplay than DP sets. Thats just to clear the air for the different series of cards.
If u are looking to start ur child on the game i suggest a starter deck that has all the basic needs to play the game as well as a simple rulebook. When i started playing myself i bought the (very old) starter deck back in year 2000. Right now, i think there is a starter deck in the EX series but i doubt u will find any, unless on ebay or in a specialty store.
Therefore i suggest any deck that can suit ur child in any way; eg. Fav color, fav pokemon or something.
Oh yes u can start in any set u want as the sets are not entirely dependant on each other. The official website doesnt hv much in my opinion but if u are still unsure of what to buy type ‘pokemon tcg’ in any search engine and a specialty site will almost definitely appear.
Hope this has helped u a bit if not a lot.

Im trying to make a pokemon deck around wailord and wailord ex?
hey, im trying to build a deck concetrating around wailords huge hp, attacks, and its healing abbilities. i want to try to keep it to 1 or 2 colorsknowing that they are going to need alot of energy to pull off those big attacks. i want to take advantage of wailord ex’s SUPER DEEP DIVE so im going to need some good stallers with low retreats so i can dish him back out whenever he gets too low. basicly how im going to use him is try to keep his hp down to 150 so hes still safe from most attackers while dishing out 150 damage. thats the main reason i need help with this deck. i just re-started last week. im a huge TCGr. im going to need energy searchers as well.
………..thank you for the help. i just need a place to start

First of all, remember that your deck will only be usable in the Unlimited format, not the tournament-circuit used Modified-Legal format.
Bearing that in mind, I recommend using pokemon like Chansey, Blissey, and Lickitung from the original sets to stall, mainly because all are colorless pokemon with high HP. Snorlax can also be a viable option, as can some newer cards. Rather than worrying about retreat costs, I suggest using Switch or Warp Point, trainer cards that allow you to switch your active pokemon.
Base set Blastoise, as well as the new Feraligatr Prime from HGSS Unleashed have the pokemon power “Rain dance” which will allow you to attach as many water energy as you’d like, making this deck quite speedy.
Using Pokemon Trader (base set) or Pokemon Communication (HGSS) will allow you to quickly get your Wailord, Blastoise, or Feraligatr set up so that you can start doing damage.
Additionally, if you’d rather not use a stage 2 for energy attachment, you can use the Supporter card Interviewer’s Questions from HGSS Unleashed, which will allow you to hopefully get a good deal of energy very quickly.
Good luck, and happy playing!

I’m creating a deck with a few Rayquaza EXs, some Picachus, and some Jolteon EXs. I also have Latios. I have some more awesome cards I would like to add, but I don’t know if they are compatible.
4 Absol EXs
2 Espeon EXs
2 Vaporeon EXs
Latias
Ho-Oh
Also, would it be a good idea to add a Lugia (My FAVOURITE Pokemon ever!!!) to this deck if I ever get it.
I want a Pokemon-TYPE!!! NOT a specific Pokemon.
How many cards in a deck?
WHY ARE YOU IN THE CARD GAMES SECTION JUST TO TELL PEOPLE TO GET A LIFE MORON!!!???
I said Pokemon-TYPE!!!

Well, you have to go with whatever performs best, like i have made electric-grass, electric-psychic, electric-fire, electric-water, and just pure electric, and they were all good. Try out a few different types

Put a Shaymin that card is out I think. If any of your pokemon are from the newest region try to get LV.X cards (basically newer form of ex). Hope this helps.

John asks…
Looking for a collectible trading card game?
Hello,
I am looking for a certain type of collectible trading card game. Now before I explain I want to make it clear that if nothing out there fits my description then it is perfectly ok to just say that.. because a negative result is still a result, and it’s better than just getting a bunch of people saying “play pokemon!”
Ok.. So I used to play Magic the Gathering a lot and I loved it! However, the game seems like it is taking a bad turn and they are just trying to make money and the whole game is starting to feel “diluted” and generic now.
What I LIKED about it back in the day is that for one there were NO preconstructed decks, instead you could only purchase boxes of random cards and you had to build and trade to make your own deck.
Also, they used to really experiment with the rules, the older cards were very interesting, the newer cards however just seem to be more powerful, but less interesting.
Nowadays, it seems like all of the strategy in MTG comes from how you build your deck and less from how you play the game.
So… to summarize:
====Main requests====
1) A complex game. The more complex the better! With cards that have lots of interesting twists on the rules.
2) The strategy should mainly come during gameplay. Not so much during the process of building the deck.
====Optional requests====
3) The company should seem more interested in actually making a great game and less on churning out and overprinting cards just to make money at the expense of the entertainment (if this is possible…)
4) No preconstructed decks. I’d prefer that you are only able to buy mixed cards, no preconstructed decks… to me “preconstructed decks” = “preconstructed strategy”, which sucks.. as I said in #2 I like the strategy to come from the game play not from the deck building.
5) Good art. I looooooooooved the art in Magic the Gathering.. it makes it hard to look at other card games because they just don’t look as good.. pokemon is a good example of this, the art looks like cr*p compared to MTG.
Also.. keep in mind that I am still talking about a COLLECTIBLE card game. I know those requests seem a little strict.. but In my opinion they would create the perfect collectible strategy card game… anything else just doesn’t cut it to me… MTG used to be all of that and more.. now it seems like a bit of a disappointment.
Thanks!!

Play Yu-Gi-Oh! The Trading Card Game.
I’m not gonna bother to write all the rules down. Get a Starter Deck (which are worth about $20-ish, I prefer Kaiba Regular of Yugi Evolution, although Pegasus is also good), which comes with 50 cards and a rulebook. Then power up your Deck with other various cards from Structure Decks or Booster Packs.
Shoot for these cards:
* Right Arm of the Forbidden One (Limited)
* Left Arm of the Forbidden One (Limited)
* Right Leg of the Forbidden One (Limited)
* Left Leg of the Forbidden One (Limited)
* Exodia the Forbidden One (Limited)
* Slifer the Sky Dragon (illegal version: Forbidden)
* Obelisk the Tormentor (illegal version: Forbidden)
* The Winged Dragon of Ra (illegal version: Forbidden)
* Mirror Force (Limited)
* Sakuretsu Armor
* Raigeki (Forbidden)
* Lightning Vortex
* Heavy Storm
* Harpie’s Feather Duster (Not sure if limited or forbidden)
* Exodia Necross
* Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord
* Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon (probably Limited)
* Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
* Nightmare Wheel
* Sorcerer of Dark Magic
* Cyber-End Dragon (Forbidden)
* Vampire Genesis (maybe Limited?)
* Dark Hole (Forbidden)
* Tragoedia
You can only have up to 3 copies of each card in a Deck. Limited Cards mean that you can have up to only 1 copy (semi-limited is 2), and Forbidden Cards cannot be used in a duel. A Deck usually has about 40-60 cards. The minimum number you can have is 40, there is no maximum.
Good luck with Yu-Gi-Oh! Hope you enjoy it!
