Terry was also a leader in developing the Colorado Association of Destination Marketing Associations (CADMO), of which he served as chairman. It was with his assistance that the Colorado tourism industry learned to “speak with one voice,” eventually leading to the creation of the Colorado Tourism Office and increased tourism marketing dollars for the state.
In 2005, Terry Sullivan was honored with the Governor’s Tourism Award for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Colorado Tourism. In 2006, he was elected to serve as the President of the Tourism Industry Association of Colorado (TIAC), which is today’s voice of the Colorado tourism and travel industry as a whole.
In addition to his tourism background, which included stints in sales and marketing for the Caribbean and Mexico, he was an Army aviator in Vietnam, followed by service in the National Guard and Army Reserves. He is rated as a Master Aviator and has some 3,000 flying hours. In March 2004, he participated as an organizer and crew member in the Smithsonian Museum of History’s “America’s Huey, The Final Journey Home.”
Terry retired in the spring of 2010 after two decades of helping tourism grow. He states: “I’ve seen some tremendous things take place at the state level, as well as in the Pikes Peak region. General William Jackson Palmer built the Colorado Springs area in 1871 with the grand vision of creating a world-class resort town. I’ve endeavored to carry on that vision throughout my tenure. It has been an honor and a privilege to lead the Colorado Springs Convention Visitors Bureau for these past 20 years.”
For being a good partner to Denver and all of Colorado and for his two decades of dedication to the travel industry, Terry Sullivan is being honored as a member of the Denver Colorado Tourism Hall of Fame.
